The Xzibit (Alvin Nathaniel Joiner) cornrows have a unique feature, just as the man himself is unique. The hair style is one that is seen more on African American hair than on other types of hair. The rows of tightly braided hair at the scalp level are widely spaced with plenty of scalp showing between each row. At the lower edge of the hairline, the tiny braids continue but are free swinging. They end about six to eight inches below the hairline.

There is no doubt that implementing the hair style takes a lot of time, but once the braids are in place, the care is not difficult. Wearers shampoo and condition just as other people do. As the hair grows out from the scalp, the style must be redone so that it always looks tidy.
Another unusual feature about Joiner’s braid rows is that they are angled. The rows originate at a single point above the bridge of the nose. The rows extend almost parallel to the chin line on the sides of his head. In some images, there is no trailing braid, the hair is completely braided along the scalp.
There are more styles that are drawn from the basic idea of braids and corn rows. In some images, the American rapper, TV show host and musician doesn’t have cornrows, but his hair is drawn smooth with braids of about 8 inches beginning at the lower hairline. Another style has a small knot of hair at the base of the skull with the corn row style braids on the rest of his head.
Xzibit cornrows can be a do-it-yourself project, or you can enlist the help of a friend or relative. Be sure you have at least two mirrors placed so that you can track your progress. Make sure that hair is clean and that the parted sections have clean and sharp lines.
