Hair grooming is very important to have and maintain healthy hair and also helps to highlight your hairstyle. One of the most common hair problems faced by men is dry hair. This makes one look untidy and can also lead to dandruff or rough hair.
Pollution, long exposure to sunlight and an unhealthy diet can lead to dry hair. Moreover, since so many hairstyles nowadays require the use of hair products, it can cause the hair to lose nutrition and become frizzy.
1. Moderate Shampooing
It is necessary to keep your hair clean, especially during summer when you sweat a lot, and if you spend time outside, getting exposed to dirt and pollution. But shampooing too frequently can rob your scalp of essential oils and natural nourishment and make your hair dry.
Men with short hair can shampoo only twice a week and need not wash their hair daily. One should use a mild shampoo and wash it off well to prevent any residue which can dry the hair too. Alternatively, you can use dry shampoo.
2. Proper Conditioning
There are many men who ignore the importance of applying conditioner after washing their hair. Shampoo is a cleanser and its job is to get rid of dirt and grime. But a good quality conditioner can form a protective layer on the hair strands and help to repair the damage caused soap or shampoo.
Although it cannot directly change the texture, it will keep your hair much softer and prevent excessive drying. You can also go for deep conditioning treatment before or after shampooing either at the salon or by applying homemade packs made of things like yogurt, eggs, mashed bananas or avocados.
3. Avoid Hair Products
The most common product used by men is hair gel or wax which helps the hair to hold its shape. Although it is great to try different hairstyles and set the hair with these products, it can cause the hair and scalp to dry out if the product contains alcohol. Always invest in high quality hair products and shampoo properly to prevent accumulation of the gel or wax at the pores and the hair itself.
4. Use Natural Oils
The best way to prevent dry hair is to nourish the scalp and the hair strands with natural oils like coconut oil, olive oil or almond oil. Moreover, when you massage the scalp while applying the oil, you are also boosting blood circulation because of which the hair remains healthy and shiny.
The best way to apply natural oil is to warm it up a little and cover your hair with a warm wet towel after application of oil. This will keep your hair soft and manageable.
5. Avoid Heat Styling
It is great to be able to change the natural texture of our hair by using curling irons, flat irons or hair straighteners, as we can try out different hairstyles. But heat styling can cause a lot of damage because excessive usage can destroy healthy hair follicles, deplete the hair of its natural moisture, thereby making it brittle and frizzy.
It is important that you use heat styling products from reputed companies so that there is no accident due to short circuits and the heat can also be moderated according to your liking. Also use heat protectant and condition your hair properly before and after the styling to prevent any permanent damage.
6. Healthy Diet
By eating vegetables, fruits, greens, nuts, reducing intake of sugar and fried fruits and sleeping on time, you can have healthy hair that is well-nourished and not dry. Without a healthy diet, no amount of hair products can help you get rid of dry hair.
7. Avoid Harsh Chemicals
It is okay if you want to try out highlights, color or perming once in a while, but if you do it repeatedly, it can damage the hair follicles and make your hair dry. Try to avoid them as much as possible and always go to a reputed hair salon.
If the scalp is prepared properly and nourished post styling, you can prevent dry hair. Swimming can also cause dry hair because pool water contains chemicals like chlorine. Use natural oil & wear a swim cap to protect your hair.
By following these instructions on how to keep hair from drying out, you can not only keep your hair healthy and soft, but also look great with your latest hairstyle.
