Hair gel is a very useful grooming aid that helps to hold hair in place after it is styled. Used in small amounts, it provides good hold without leaving the hair looking or feeling greasy. However, there are several varieties of hair gel sold and it is difficult to know what is in each one. Many people have decided that it could be safer and less expensive to make their own at home. Here, we will look at how to make your own homemade hair gel.
The recipe for homemade hair gel is quite easy to follow and contains nothing that could damage the hair, unlike many over the counter products. These simple instructions will produce a product that can be used exactly as one would use over the counter hair gel with no preservatives or harsh chemicals.
In a pot, heat one cup of water to just short of the boiling point. Remove the pot from the heat and stir in one cup of warm water with a half teaspoon of unflavored gelatin and a half teaspoon of aloe vera gel. One can also add a few drops of essential oils if one wishes a certain scent.
Stir the ingredients together until the desired consistency is reached. If the mixture is too thin, add gelatin in small amounts to thicken it until it is a thin gel.
As there are no preservatives in this mixture, it will only last one to two weeks if kept refrigerated. The gel can be kept in an old hair gel container from an over the counter product or a small Tupperware bowl to store the gel.
Making ones own hair gel at home is very inexpensive and allows one to know exactly what is being used on the hair. It is a perfect solution for those with a sensitive scalp who react to many chemicals normally used on hair.

Hi!
I didn't know where else to leave this comment since I can't find an e-mail address anywhere on the site.
First, I want to say thanks for making such a great blog. I found this site a year or so ago and I visit it at least once or twice a month. Your explanations are always helpful and entertaining.
On the header of the site, there are 2 pictures and in between, there is the title "Cool Men's Hair." Would you happen to have the original picture of the hairstyle on the right of the header?
Also, if you don't mind, could you help me determine what shape my face is? I've thought my face was everything from round to oval to heart and I just need someone else's opinion (http://photos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs253.snc1/10035_158405965947_629925947_3472850_4279683_n.jpg and http://photos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs176.snc1/6614_136558085947_629925947_3168242_3714623_n.jpg)
Thanks for making such a great blog.
Happy New Year
Hairstyle on the right of the header is Joe Jonas hairstyle, http://coolmenshair.com/2008/07/joe-jonas-hairstyles.html.
The left of the header is Blake Lewis, http://coolmenshair.com/2008/06/blake-lewis-hairstyles.html.
Hi! Sorry, but I´m not sure I get it... You "almost" boil one cup of water, the gelatine and the aloe vera are added to a cup of warm water, and THEN you mix both cups?
Since it doesn´t have any preservatives, could it rot if you use it for a very long time on a hot day? Well, maybe moldy hair is the style for 2010.
And one last question. I have curly hair, and I use (according to google translator) styling cream. Would the gel work for curly hair?
Great blog!!!
To zdecydowania moja ulubiona fryzura. Takie potargane włosy są niezwykle twarzowe, choć jeśli chodzi o zaplecze techniczne jest dużo bardziej pracochłonna niż grzeczne uczesania.
