Aspirin As A Home Remedy To Treat Dandruff

Dandruff is one of the most common hair problems which can not only lead to a flaky scalp, but also hair loss. Dandruff can be caused due to various reasons like excessive or infrequent shampooing and conditions like eczema and psoriasis.

Although one can go to a salon and hair spa to get anti-dandruff treatments, there are many different kinds of simple home remedies you can follow to treat dandruff too. These remedies are not expensive, require only a few minutes and contain no harmful chemicals. One of them is using aspirin.

Aspirin contains compounds called salicylates, which is one of the main active ingredients present in anti-dandruff shampoos that have salicylic acid. Use only the amount necessary because excessive usage can cause dryness, and always apply a mild conditioner in the end.

Also remember to avoid using any hair cleanser or product that contains alcohol or harsh chemicals as it can irritate your affected skin. By adding aspirin to our regular shampoos, we can create an effective dandruff treatment solution. Here’s what you need to do:

Crush a couple of uncoated aspirin pills with the back of a metal spoon. Pour the required amount of fragrance- and dye-free shampoo in a bowl. Now mix the aspirin powder with the shampoo. You may have to adjust the amount of the powder depending on how much shampoo you are using.

For example, if you use more than a capful of shampoo, you will have to increase the amount of aspirin too. But usually for men’s hair, this amount should be enough.

Apply this shampoo all over your hair and scalp and leave it for around 5 minutes so that the salicylic acids get time to be absorbed by your scalp. Now wash you hair with lukewarm or cold water. For best results, use the shampoo at least 2-3 times a week.
