i just wana say that Rastafarian ppl hate to be called with the words -ism such as Rastafarianism, dats all, peace
That’s too bad, I’m afraid. If you’re a Rastafarian then you subscribe to Rastafarianism, simple as.
I think i agree with toke on this,
peace!
can i say that the hairstyle is fn awesome!!!!!!!!!!! there’s my new style! salute jah rastafari!
Actually, interesting fact, if you were to call the hairstyle “DREADlocks”, “true” Rastafarians would actually be offended. The term “dreadlocks” came from slave times when the slave owners would describe the hair as “dreadfully ugly”, thus the term
“dreadlock” came about. Apparently the political correction would be “locks”.
Great another political correctness Nazi, freedom of speech bro. Racism is the past and those who dwell in it still are the ones not letting go. Political Correctness = Enslavement of freedom and free speech.
I think it more of a respect thing @ Rican Mae? If Your name is Sam but you perfer to be called something else then me expressing my FREEDOM OF SPEECH and still calling you Sam, although that is your name, is disrespectful. So what is more important Freedom of Speech or Respect?? Just my thoughts though….
The righteous path of Rastafari is not an ism or schism. “Fighting against ism and skism” – Bob Marley(One Drop)
Rastafari say that they reject “-isms”. They see a wide range of “isms and schisms” in modern society and want no part in them, for example communism and capitalism. They especially reject the word Rastafarianism, because they see themselves as having transcended “isms and schisms”. This has created some conflict between Rastas and some members of the academic community studying the Rastafari phenomenon, who insist on calling this religious faith Rastafarianism, in spite of the disapproval this generates within the Rastafari movement. Nevertheless, the practice continues among scholars. However, the study of Rasta using its own terms has occurred.
Oh, gosh I love dreads they make guys look so carefree and uninhibited it’s really sexy. Do you guys remember when Billie Joe had a dread? (at least I think it was a dread) he looked even more sexy
this site is about the hair style itself. not to argue about who would get offended over a word. creat your own blog for that.
What! That’s not even a picture of a rasta with dreads…just some dude with curls wtf!!! No more “isms’ and “skisms”…JAH RASTAFARI!
dread locks are wonderful…but to be a rasta u do not only need to keep yr hair in locks, u also need to keep yrself purified. People can make locks hairstyle but to us it is more than that….peace
#1 No white rastas exist
#2 Dreads have been around since the cave man
#3 They do trace back to cultures in the African and Australian outback, not 1953 Kenya. That is when Rasta started.
#4 Its just as an absurd religion as christianity.
#5 its congregation, Rastafari, are vegetarian and dont cut their hair, oh and Ganja is a sacramental thing, like praying.
#6 Haille Selasie is their “Savior”.
hmmm. what about bob marley's statement that we don't belong to no black man's side or white man's side, we belong to god's side (or something like that).
if i am not totally stupid from that statement rastafari can be anybody.
I'm confused as to why you say "no white rastas exist", simply not true! You don't have to be black to be a Rasta.
What a silly post to put on a hair website
rock and roll…thats all people
it's rastafai not rastafarianism that's like saying christianitysim….
and yea there are white rastas.
it's not about race man, it's about truth.
peace&respect
tis true there is both black and white rastafari's,,but good ole mr harvey (one of the highest influential persons of the rastafari movement) preached a lot about going back to your roots, a reference to africans who were brought to the americas during the slave trade of christopher columbus time period… you hear a lot of the "back to your roots" talk in rasta music. an seeing how not to many whites were brought to the americas from africa to be sold as slaves,,,not many whites are in fact rasta's. of course there is more to rastafari than just this and there are white rasta's but the number or white rastas is minimal on a scale compared to all rastafari's
Also waring locks pon your head was durived from Biblical time period, John the baptist took the nazerite vow to never comb or cut his hair. he indeed wore locks pon his head, as did mighty strong samson, the Bible clearly states samson had 7 locks pon his head. There are many reasons for rasta's wearing locks.
There are records of locs dating back to ancient Kemet(known today as Egypt) and, seeing that all humanity was originally “African”, going ‘back to your roots’ pertains to EVERYONE under the sun. Hotep. StayKemetic…
Aw man I really want locks like this.
I am white, I am rastafri
you just need to find peace and love with your brothers and sisters man. i have dreads down to my knees and i love them more than my retirement fund. JAH MON!
nuff real rasta dont have dreads. rasta nah need fi lock him head to be rasta. rasta is love , understanding, ital food and no hatred fi any man. jah bless all conscious dread AND baldhead!!!
i have no idea wat any of you are talkin about and this website is to show hairstyles if you have a comment email the freakin website gosh! dont complain on this little comment box dang. and if you already see what you are about to write already written please don't post it again. i am tired of reading the same comment 50 times.
one individual touched on the truth regarding the origin and significance of this "hairstyle"… it does indeed originate in the Naasir… the Nazarite vow, which can be found in your Christian Bibles in the book of Numbers, verse six. The Hebrew people, Black, Brown, Red, Yellow & White… are the originators of your so called "Dreadlocks". As are we the originators of all things beneath our almighty creator. Yes, indeed we did begin in the north eastern part of what is today called Africa… look how far we have fallen! Know yourselves and be free from all that binds you!
fashion statement n comment on thread
The Bible says that the locks would be "dreadfull" as in to strike fear in the heart of the wicked. Rastafari as a faith originates in Jamaica founded by the profecies of Marcus Garvey who had previously founded the back to Africa movement in the US (4 million strong) years back, and looked to Halle Sellassie king of Ethiopia ( previously known as Ras "meaning prince" Tafari) as the second coming of Christ (n he had no dread). Haille sellasie believed that the color of a mans skin should be of no more signifigance the color of his eyes, despite this fact some black rasta use Rastafari to seperate races (not its intention). Growing dreads is what all our hair does naturally when it is cleaned but not combed (not like this image here obviously twisted and chemically treated), so no one has the right to dictate who can grow there hair so. I am not white, nor am I black, I don't have dread locks and I shave my face, but I am a Rasta man who loves all people and His Imperial Majesty Emporer Hallie Sellasie King of Kings Lord of Lords Conquering Lion of the Tribe of Judah n i don't care bout your fashion dread and yes this thread should and is only about fashion cuz fashion is an outward expresion of ones self and for thousands of years fashion has been a spiritual symbol just as much as a symbol of peoples lowsy sense of style so check it blog author n let this one post.
You cannot be white and be a rasta, main reason is you will need to go through the daily persecution and struggles black people have to endure. You will not have the understanding and the essence deep in your soul if you are any other colour other than black. Many white so-called rastas have been accepted by some rastas. So yes, you can be any colour and have locks(very nice ones too) but you cannot be rasta, just like you cannot be black to be a hindu, sikh, orthodox jew. But as with most things which black people have originated other races have jumped on the bandwagon and bastardised and in the process have not given credit where credit is due. Other races can freely jump in and out of the black culture(hiphop, reggae, rnb, street dance, hiphop dance, rapping, dancehall, clothing styles, haircuts etc) as and when it pleases them. Where as black people cannot switch on and off the blackness, so NO you cannot be white or any other colour and be a rasta. And that is not being racist, just in case any ignorant fools try and say otherwise. peace.
Reggae Music is God's music..
So.. if it's God's music, it is everybody's music Rasta! So as Dreadlocks and Rastafari.. you know what I'm saying ? Black people do wrong as white people do wrong.. Jah love all people.. and Jah mercy's everlasting!! "ONE LOVE" "PEACE" ONE COMMUNITY..jah children.. Bless all rasta.
Clean heart.
